Frequently asked questions

How it works

What is Klipptik?
Klipptik is a video knowledge tool. Clip precise moments from YouTube and local video files, organise them into a searchable library with folders, tags, and ratings, and play them back as seamless sequences. No downloads, no video editing — just the moments that matter.
Is Klipptik the same as Cliptik, Cryptic, or Kliptic?
Yes — Klipptik (with a K and double P: klipp-tik) is the correct spelling. People often hear the name as “Cliptik,” “Cryptic,” “Kliptic,” or “Clipptic” and search that way. You’re in the right place: this is the video clipping and library tool at klipptik.com.
What is a "Klipptik" (the shared thing)?
A Klipptik is a shareable snapshot of a video from your library. When you share a video, Klipptik creates a public page at a unique URL with your curated clips. Recipients watch the clips in sequence without needing an account. Think of it like a "tweet" for video moments.
What video sources does Klipptik support?
YouTube and local video files (MP4, WebM, OGG, MOV). YouTube videos play through the official embedded player. Local files play through your browser's built-in video player.
Do I need an account to use Klipptik?
No. You can start clipping immediately as a guest — no sign-up, no email, no credit card. Your data is stored locally in your browser. Create a free account when you want cloud backup and sharing.
What happens to my data if I close the browser?
Your library is stored in your browser's local database (IndexedDB). It persists between sessions. Clear your browser data and it's gone — create a free account for cloud backup.

Legality & compliance

Is clipping YouTube videos legal?
Yes. Klipptik uses the official YouTube IFrame Player API and Data API v3 — the same technology YouTube provides for embedding videos across the web. We store timestamps and metadata, not video content. Fully compliant with YouTube's Terms of Service.
Do you download or store my videos?
No. Klipptik stores metadata only — video titles, timestamps, tags, and references to the original source. Your video content stays on YouTube (or on your device for local files). We never download, host, or process video content.
Can a video creator take down my clips?
Your clips are timestamps pointing to the original video. If the original video is removed from YouTube, your clips still exist in your library but the video won't play. The metadata (title, timestamps, your notes) is preserved.

Privacy & data

What data does Klipptik collect?
As a guest: nothing leaves your browser. With an account: your library data (videos, clips, folders, tags) syncs to our server for cloud backup. We use PostHog EU Cloud for product analytics, consent-gated — you choose whether to opt in.
Can I export my data?
Pro users can export their entire library — videos, clips, folders, tags, and all metadata — at any time. Your data belongs to you.
Where is my data stored?
Guest data: your browser's IndexedDB (local only). Account data: Neon Postgres (cloud database) with servers in the EU. We never store video files — only metadata.
Do you sell my data?
No. We don't sell, share, or monetise your data. Klipptik is funded by subscriptions, not advertising.

Pricing & plans

How much does Klipptik cost?
Free forever for up to 50 clips. Premium is $6/month ($5/month billed annually). Pro is $12/month ($10/month billed annually). See the pricing page for full details.
Is there a free trial?
The Free tier is your trial. You get the full core experience — 50 clips, folders, tags, search, sequential playback, 3 shares, 20 AI tagging uses, and 5 transcript searches. Use it as long as you like. When you're ready for unlimited, upgrade instantly.
What counts toward the 50-clip limit?
Each clip you create counts toward the limit. Demo content and saved Klipptiks from other users do not count. If you upgrade and later cancel, clips beyond 50 are preserved but hidden until you re-subscribe.
What happens to my clips if I cancel Premium?
Your clips aren't deleted. You keep access to your library, but it reverts to Free tier limits (50 clips visible, sharing limited to 3 Klipptiks). If you re-subscribe, everything is restored immediately.
Can I change plans later?
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade at any time. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle. Downgrades preserve your data — nothing is deleted.
Do you offer student or educator discounts?
We're considering it. If you're a student or educator, reach out — we want Klipptik to be accessible to learners.

Sharing

How does sharing work?
Click "Share" on any video in your library. Klipptik creates a public page with your clips at a unique URL. Send the link to anyone — they can watch your curated clips without an account.
Can I share local video clips?
No. Only videos from online sources (YouTube) can be shared. Local files exist only on your device — there's no way for a recipient to play them.
What branding appears on shared Klipptiks?
Free: a branded outro card ("Made with Klipptik"). Premium: outro card plus an optional personalised intro. Pro: clean — no Klipptik branding.

Technical

What browsers does Klipptik support?
Any modern browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge. Klipptik is a web app that runs entirely in your browser.
Is there a desktop app?
An Electron desktop app is planned for power users with large local video collections. The web app is the primary platform.
Does Klipptik work offline?
Your library is accessible offline (it's stored locally). YouTube video playback requires an internet connection. Local file playback works offline.
